Aesthetic Microneedling, (CIT - Collagen Induction Therapy) is a procedure which uses a device with tiny, shallow needles that poke micro-channels in the skin’s surface. These channels are therapeutic because the ‘micro-injuries’, through a wound response, will prompt the skin to stimulate collagen production. This collagen helps to fill in fine lines, plump the skin, and even out skin pigmentation. Overall, Microneedling contributes to a more youthful look.
It is normal to be hesitant about needles, however, if you can tolerate a few minutes of slight discomfort (we do use numbing cream to reduce the annoying prickling feeling), this minimally invasive treatment is incredibly effective.
WRINKLES AND AGING
The micro-injuries created stimulate the body's natural wound healing process, resulting in cell turnover and increased collagen and elastin production, therefore reversing as well as preventing signs of aging.
SUN DAMAGE/ HYPERPIGMENTATION/ BURNS/SCARS
Once again, collagen is arguably the most vital way to improve the look of skin, and this goes far beyond reducing wrinkles. By stimulating collagen growth with microneedling, you can also reverse sun damage and skin discoloration from photoaging, burns, acne, and scars.
Our skin is elastic and has the ability to stretch out and return to its natural elasticity and form. Stretch marks appear on areas of the body where the skin is stretched beyond its natural capacity. Think of a rubber band that keeps stretching until it snaps. As we age the skins ability to rebound is highly diminished.
Microneedling creates microscopic injuries in the stretch marks where the body responds by producing new collagen at the wound sites. As the outer layer of the skin is not affected by microneedling, the new collagen generated is used only to help heal the stretch marks.
Stretch marks require a series of microneedling sessions, usually at 4-6 week intervals.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING MICRONEEDLING
First, an anesthetic cream is applied to the client’s skin to keep them comfortable during the procedure. Next we apply a light layer of hydrating serum to lubricate your skin and make the microneedling device glide more smoothly. The device glides over the client’s skin, creating tiny holes in the surface. The process typically takes less than 30 minutes, and afterward, your skin will be red, very similar to a sunburn.
Skin may be red for a day up to a few days post-treatment. This is perfectly normal. It may feel like you have a sunburn, also normal. On average, you will feel "normal" and back to yourself approx 3-4 days after treatment. Slight peeling and flaking should occur as this is an exfoliation treatment.
Those looking to treat deep wrinkles, stretch marks, severe sun damage or scarring may need multiple microneedling treatments. To ensure the safety of your skin, treatments are usually spaced out 4-6 weeks apart. This time period allows your body to repair and rejuvenate before the next treatment.
